Chateau Ausone 1995, 90 points

1995 Château Ausone

(France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru)

This Chateau Ausone was consistent for a St Emillion bordoux.  Quality wine and this 1995 was ready for drinking.  The color was on the brownish side. The palate started thin and was strong on the oak side but then it transitioned into a good quality Bordeaux.  The palate length was medium. Tannins hit nicely and smooth on the mid pa

late and into the finish transition.  Raspberry on the transition that accompany the oak.  Little earthy with hints of leather, herbal, plum and just a little tart.  Little bit of mineral.  Aged well.  This was a nice experience but I was not blown away.

Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard 2004, 90 points

Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard

(USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville)

Had this wine at the Venetian in Vegas. Tasted side by side with Staglin Cabernet.  Great experience. Very strong nose of dark fruits, blackberry raspberry and some dried roses.  Really had a quality nose which matched and rolled over into the palate.  This had just the right amount of tannins and was very balanced. This wine was crisp and a little sharper than the staglin which is a little more velvet.  The Paul Hobbs had some mocha and blueberry with was a little smokey tail.  The palate was long and smooth,  It was not your typical harsh finish.  This was an 04 and drinkable now but felt like a couple more years will round it off nicely. Had a nice old world earthy feel.  Worth a try and although it is prices on the high side it is worth it.

From Paul Hobbs Site

Winemaker’s Notes
Inky black garnet color carries enticing aromas of red currant and tobacco leaf to introduce a weighty, complex, seamlessly integrated wine. The deeply textured palate displays a rich interplay of blackberry, cassis, graphite and mocha, with notes of cedar, espresso, lavender and smoke adding intrigue through the mid-palate. Big, ripe, fine-grained tannins grace a lengthy finish. Alcohol 15.3%

Chateau Boswell Winery - Must have for investment or enjoyment

Chateau Boswell Winery - Chateau Boswell Website

Hi everyone. Ok, I did not want to put this video out originally but I’m going to now. Why you ask? Well I am floored at the amount of hits to my blog for Chateau Boswell Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Jacquelynn Cuvèe Blanc. Since I posted the reviews for their wine there has been allot of buzz. This was a great boutique winery run by the family and is putting out wine that you could compare to Harland Estate and Colgin. They just built a new cave that is very contemporary and something to be seen. I got a private tour by the owner Josh Peoples and he was generous enough to walk me around and barrel taste some of the up and coming Estate vintages. Outstanding. There is not much produced so get as much as you can and lay it down. This wine will double or tipple in value very quickly. By far one of my favorite wines from my 2008 trip to Napa.

1991 Chateau Mouton Rothschild wine review, 84 points

1991 Mouton Rothschild.

(France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac)

I was looking forward to this wine. The 1991 vintage is one of the less desirable in 2 decades but I was still excited to try it. The cork was super soaked and still good quality. We decanted this wine for about an hour. The nose was what I expected, a very earthy and old world smell. Green peppers, wet leaves, and not too fruity. Had hints of berries. Had the nose of a good quality wine. The color was surprisingly thinner than expected and was on the brownish side with just a little purple. On to the tasting. It went down hill from here. The palate was dull and boring overall. I could feel the old world quality trying to come out but it stayed somewhat flat. Strong on the green peppers and the earthiness was consistent. The berries were also consistent with the nose which brings me to a point that the nose really predicted the palate which is somewhat unusual. The finish was smooth and mature with a smooth balanced feel. not too hot and the tannins stayed in their place.
Sorry folks. I was really hopping for a raving review on the Mouton Rothschild but cant give one and would have to say that specifically the 1991 vintage is still overpriced and $400.00. Its a pass for me and I will have to get into the 1982 or the 2000 vintage and change my opinion.

STAGLIN Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford 2004, 93 points

STAGLIN Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford 2004

One of my favorites. Bold, rich and plush, and this wine has balanced nicley, with plum, wild berry blueberries and smoky mocha-laced oak that’s woven into the flavor. Nice dark purle, close to a light brown. Focused, deep and persistent. Has a long palate , with a nutmeg scent. This is a deep serous wine. Could use a few more years but if you decant for about an hour you will love it. I visited the winery and it is and impressive operation. The family takes pride in their property and wine making. Michael Roland was involved with the making while I was there.

This is a define try. About 150-175 per bottle so it’s not your average table wine.

From Staglin’s Website:

Tasting Notes by Winemaker Fredrik Johansson:

The 2004 vintage provided classic growing conditions for our Cabernet vines. After an early warming trend in March and April, a trouble-free bloom and berry set was followed by sustained sunshine and heat, evenly ripening the grapes for fully developed flavors.

This wine displays a nose profuse with spice and cedar infused black cherries and currants followed by a rich palate of spicy red and black cherries, chocolate covered plums and blueberries with a tease of black olives lurking in the background. The voluminous mid-palate exits with a beautifully textured undercurrent of spice and white pepper that carries through to a lengthy finish that is inflected with hints of earth and mushrooms. This wine is already showing beautifully and will continue to develop more complexity as it ages for 5-10 years.

Reviews by Wine Experts:

James Laube, Wine Spectator, Oct. 15, 2007
STAGLIN Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford 2004– Bold, rich and plush, this is impeccably balanced, with ripe, complex plum, wild berry and smoky mocha-laced oak that’s woven into the flavor profile. Focused, deep and persistent. Has a long, complex aftertaste, with a nutmeg scent. Best from 2009 through 2015. (93 points)

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, December 2006
2004 Staglin Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon– The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a dense purple color, more obvious tannin, and a more masculine style than the 2003. It’s a bigger wine with additional notes of scorched earth, blueberries, blackberries, and heady cassis. Unlike most 2004 Napa Cabernets, this weighty effort will require some bottle aging. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and consume it over the following two decades.” (92 points)
