Darioush Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, 87 points

2006 Darioush Cabernet Sauvignon

(USA, California, Napa Valley)

At Steve’s Steakhouse in Catalina with an 06 Darioush. The initial feel on this wine was mixed.  The nose had nice character with vanilla, cherry and cigar box.  Color was a darker purple.  Right out of the bottle this wine was really tight and had lots of room to loosen up.  It felt really young.  We decanted and started to drink in about 20 minutes.  It opened up some but still too young feeling and closed.  The palate was full bodied but the tannins are still a little hot.  Elegant feeling wine that felt like it could go in many directions.  Black currant, fruit and spices with hints of chocolate and oak.  Sweet and spicy.

Overall the wine has big potential but not worth it for me if you are going to open now.  The 06 needs some time without a doubt but you can just feel that it has lots of potential.  I gave it and 87 for now but I think it will be 90 in a few years.
