Frank Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, 86 points

2006 Frank Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

(USA, California, Napa Valley)

At the Casino in Avalon for a jazz concert and having the Frank Family Cab.  I was looking forward to this wine. The nose was kind of flat and subdued.  Not much happening. More oak than anything.  The color was a medium ruby red. The palate right at opening was a little scary.  Fruit forward but quickly went to the finish with earthy mineral tastes. Definitely darker fruits on the start and the tannins were bouncing hard.  Too much for the wine.  The mid palate was a darker bark taste and then the minerals hit.  Lots of stainless steel on this finish.  I feel the wine needs about 5 years.

Re evaluated 30 minutes into the opening. The wine settled a little and softened up but the mineral content is still way off the chart.

This wine is disjointed and needs some time.  At 40 bucks a bottle I would hold for a while.  Try an older vintage first.
